I've always messed around with silly voices to entertain my kids. Loved reading to them at bedtime and bringing characters to life. And when COVID happened and the world turned on its head, my wife read an article talking about people who were now having to work from home were converting their free space to allow them to carry on working. One of the case studies was a VO who converted his walk-in dressing room into a recording studio. "Hey Mike, have you seen this? Maybe that's something you could do?" I'd never done VO in my life but my wife can be very persuasive and so the journey began. Five years on and I have now moved out of the cupboard and into a custom built professional grade studio at the bottom of the garden. The neighbours think it's just a garden room. But in reality, within its walls, the magic happens.....
I am blessed with a deep and emotive voice, perfect for certain types of VO.
I specialise in audiobooks, poetry and gaming voices.
I also, however, regularly do voices for TV and radio adverts.

For years I worked in the leisure industry. Dealing with tens of thousands of expectant customers every year has framed the way I look at 'work'.
Life is so much more enjoyable if you are nice to people. They tend to be nice to you back. Speak to them in a courteous manner. Exceed their service expectations. Thrill them with the product you deliver to them. 'Wow' them and they will tell others and come back. And by having that philosophy, your job becomes a pleasure.
And that is how I see VO. I genuinely love what I do. I humbly, sometimes, reflect that I may actually be quite good at it! But by building real working relationships with clients, by being respectful, by listening and then, doing a great job and, ultimately, 'wowing' them with my voice, THAT'S when I get the buzz.
And that's how I work.
